Ibis Styles Trier Review
We stayed at the Ibis Styles Trier Germany with our three kids aged 6, 10 and 12.
The Ibis Styles Trier is housed in the historic building of the former post office. Many of the rooms have a ceiling height of 4.50 metres which gives the place a very spacious feel. It’s a beautiful building.
This hotel is located in the Old Town of Trier in a convenient spot to visiting many attractions. It’s just 10 minutes walk from Porta Nigra or 7 minutes walk from Constantine’s Throne Room.
There are plenty of restaurants and shops in the vicinity of the hotel. It’s a great location, and it’s hard to imagine better.
Address: Metzelstraße 12, Trier 54290
The Hotel Ibis Styles Trier has three room types – double, twin and family room which is also called a twin room with sofa bed.
They are all very similar. All are very comfortable and modern and come with a desk, safe and flat-screen TV. They all have private bathrooms with showers.
They also are all advertised with temperature control. Unfortunately, this isn’t true. They have some type of cooling system in the hotel but it doesn’t really do anything. They told us it’s meant to decrease temperatures by about 6 degrees, but it didn’t even do this in our rooms. Either way, that’s not temperature control.
This does lead to some hot and stuffy rooms. We were told to leave the windows open. However, this leads to noise, especially if your room faces the courtyard where people are eating and drinking. If you keep complaining, they will bring you a fan.
The family room is a little bigger and also has a sofa bed. It’s advertised as sleeping three people, although the sofa bed was a double. It could fit two young kids.
Even if you aren’t travelling with kids, you may want this room for a little more space and comfort.
All Comfort Family Room/Twin Room With Sofa Bed
We travelled here as a family of five so we booked two of the family rooms. They were both similar but one was bigger and the other had the toilet in a separate room. Both were spacious and bigger than the average German hotel room.
Most my descriptions are going to be based on the room pictured here.
On entry to the room was a fold out table to place a suitcase, straight ahead was the big sofa that can convert to a bed.
There was then the rest of the bedroom with two single beds, a small set of shelves and a small desk (that could fold into the wall) with a chair. There’s also a TV and a safe.
There is a small hanging space coming out of the wall.
The room looks stylish and has high ceilings and good lighting.
To the left was a bathroom with basin and shower and next to this was a toilet.
As stated above, there was no temperature control and this room was especially hot and stuffy. Opening the windows brought in too much noise in the evening when the kids go to bed relatively early.
The curtains are black out and do a reasonable job.
However, my biggest problem with this (and our other room) was how bare bones it is. There are no cupboards and only a small shelf (so we were stuck with quite messy rooms as our belongings had to sit on the floor).
There is plenty of space in the rooms, so it’s a shame they don’t want to add somewhere to actually put your belongings.
I’m used to a free bottle of water, but not only is that not available, but there isn’t even a cup in the bathroom. So there’s no way to get a drink of tap water even.
There is a hair dryer and hand and body soap containers in the bathroom which are hard to use. No other toiletries, no fridge, no tea and coffee and like I said, not even a cup. Even when I’ve stayed in an Ibis Budget hotel, I’ve had a cup. There’s no information about the hotel and what’s on offer.
The rooms seemed clean except my shower still had multiple hairs in it.
The saving grace is that the bed is comfortable, the room quiet when windows are shut and it looks good. I just wish it didn’t feel like an ultra budget hotel thanks to no frills whatsoever and being hot.
There isn’t a huge range of facilities at the Ibis Styles Trier. There is a small fitness room and wifi is available in all areas. I loved the internet speeds.
Cots, strollers and bottle warming are available.
A big plus for us is the Ibis Styles Trier parking as we travelled with a car. It was easy although did cost an additional 17 euros a night. There are other parking options nearby which can be cheaper if you prefer.
Car spots are also not guaranteed as there are only 25 spots. You can take any that are available though.
I found staff I dealt with friendly but it could be hard to get help. We tried ringing reception a few times and no one ever answered and the reception seems rarely manned.
In theory, the reception area has water and tea and coffee, but I found the water was always out. At least I was able to smuggle up a plastic cup from here for my room so I could have a glass of water at night!
A continental breakfast is available at the Ibis Styles Trier. I read before I visited that this is a reasonable price. However, on arrival, I did not seem able to get information about it.
There are plenty of other dining options nearby including a few options at the courtyard entry to the hotel so it’s easy to get something to eat.
If you want a good value, comfortable hotel option in the centre of Trier, the Hotel Ibis Styles Trier is a fabulous option.
However, have low expectations about what will be available in your room and it may be quite hot in summer.
Despite my complaints though, we did have a great stay here. It was super easy and peaceful which is exactly what we wanted.
