Near: Within walking distance of the central train station and the main square.

Room Types: Single rooms, Double rooms, Superior Double rooms, & Suites

Top Features:

  • On-site restaurant
  • Breakfast buffet
  • On-site parking
  • Summer terrace

When you stay at the Romantik Hotel Markusturm, you’ll be just minutes away from the Alt-Rothenburger Handwerkerhaus, a 14th century historic home. The Markus Tower is quite literally steps away, as it sits just behind the hotel. You can also walk to the German Christmas Museum, and the White Tower.

Every room includes a seating area, an electric kettle, a sofa, free toiletries, a private bathroom with a bathtub or shower, a hair dryer, views of the city, a desk, a flatscreen TV, a phone, and free Wi-Fi.

Upgraded rooms may include a bathrobe and slippers, a fully equipped kitchenette, views of the garden, and a separate dining area.

This is likely the oldest hotel on this list as it was constructed in 1200. It has been owned by the Berger family for four generations, and has been hosting guests for over 500 years. When you step through the doors of this hotel, you will literally be stepping back in time. The rooms have been updated to accommodate a modern flair, but maintain their history with antique decor.

The romantic restaurant offers a delicious breakfast buffet every morning. In the evening, you can dine on local cuisine as well as home-brewed beverages. During the summer months when it’s warm, you can take your food to the outside terrace where you can surround yourself with flowers.

Best Parts?

The history behind this hotel is amazing, and the staff is not afraid to share its rich history with you. The owners have done a good job with updating the rooms to have modern styles while maintaining some of the medieval atmosphere. Possibly the best part of this hotel is the location. Almost all the attractions are within 5-minutes walking distance of the hotel.

Worst Parts?

Some guests said that the food offered at the hotel restaurant was just average and overpriced. There is also no air conditioning, so the rooms can become quite warm during the summer months.

Summary

If you’ve ever wanted to sleep inside a piece of history, there’s no better place to go than the Romantik Hotel Markusturm. The hotel has been in operation for over 500 years, and it maintains many of its old-time charm.
